Journal Article

Abstract

This study sets out to gain more clarification about strategies and approaches that English teachers

apply for a naturally-occurring listening materials to make learners practise authentic materials with

regard to three areas which are spoken language features, for instance, ellipsis and repetition, turntaking patterns and politeness characteristics. This paper analyses two transcriptions of conversations

from EFL text books of which the former is taken from a naturally-occurring conversation, while the latter

is a particularly-written text taken from an EFL course book. The findings signify that the features of

spoken language are reasonably important to be focused on naturally-occurring communication. Both

dialogues have similar features in some points and dissimilar in others. This paper also demonstrates

some instances of turn-taking from conversation transcriptions as well as politeness features. This paper

concludes by considering the obstacles of an English teacher to find authentic interaction conversations

and some recommendation have been illustrated for a classroom activities practice and for teaching

  • profession.
