The University of Zintan (formerly University of Al-Jabel Al-Gharbi) is one of the government universities in the State of Libya, and its administration is located in the city of Zintan, which is located in the middle of the peaks of the Western Mountain, about 160 km southwest of the capital, Tripoli.
Its academic history is more than 30 years and it is affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and its name was changed according to the decision issued by the Libyan Council of Ministers in 2017 after the restructuring of Al-Jabal Al-Gharbi University. It is worth noting that the first nucleus of the University of Zintan is the College of Science, which was established based on the decision of the former General People’s Committee (745 of 1991) more than 30 years ago under the name of the University of the Western Mountain, headquartered in the city of Zintan. This college has become famous locally, regionally, and internationally thanks to the efficiency of its outputs.
The University of Zintan grants university degrees (licentiate and bachelor’s degrees), and has also developed postgraduate programs in a number of scientific departments in various colleges. It aims, through its educational, cultural and training programs, to achieve excellence and leadership in the field of university education and scientific research at the local, regional and international levels.

Mission
Zintan University is an educational and research institution that seeks excellence in its educational services, which qualifies it to meet the needs of the local and regional community and contribute to achieving social and economic development and serving the Libyan community in accordance with international developments.
The university also sought to enrich the central university library and provide it with sources and references and develop it by developing a database for it and its branches in order to develop the foundations of scientific research and activate it in a way that keeps pace with advanced scientific development.
The university also paid attention to various activities, whether student or general university activities, and participating in all cultural and sporting activities held by the Activity Department of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in order to stimulate and refine talents and build bridges of trust between the university, its students, and its administrative and academic staff.

Through its educational, cultural and training programs, Zintan University aims to achieve excellence and leadership in the field of university education and scientific research at the local, regional and international levels through:
- Raising the efficiency of institutional performance to improve the competitive position of the university with its surroundings
- Commitment to applying quality standards and periodically evaluating institutional capacity and educational effectiveness
- Increasing the competitiveness of Zintan University students
- Developing the capabilities and skills of faculty members and improving the services provided to them
- Developing scientific research, supporting it, investing in the development of the local economy, and directing research
- Strengthening partnership relations and programs with civil society and environmental development institutions
